Our History

Serving the New York State Capital District since 1924, HATAS evolved into a professional human services agency in the 1960's, and we have served as the central intake, assessment, and access point for the Albany County emergency shelter system for over 20 years. A focus on emergency services for homeless people, and complimentary programming in mental health, employment, housing, domestic violence, and forensics powers a comprehensive approach that takes advantage of a wide range of agency skills and experience. Last year, HATAS served nearly 5,000 people including nearly 600 families and over 1,500 children. HATAS services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to make sure that everyone who comes to us for help will have a safe place to sleep that night. We collaborate with other area human service providers in order to best serve our clients, and our community as a whole.
