Matas Mentor Program

Mentoring Adolescents Transitioning to Adult Services

Make a difference in the life of a young adult — and have fun, too! Imagine the impact that an encouraging role model can have on a young adult's life! Mentoring programs give us each a chance to motivate and elevate the youth in our community. Are you ready to take this next step through HATAS "MATAS"?

What is HATAS "MATAS"?

Mentoring Adolescents Transitioning to Adult Services connects adolescents and young adults in our mental health program with a caring adult who will meet with them regularly, and provide social support and guidance on personal and vocational issues. Mentors will have both face-to-face and telephone contact with mentees, including organized mentor/mentee events (ex. holiday parties, recreational outings). Generally, mentors and mentees will work out how they spend their time together.

What does a mentor do?

A mentor provides support to a young person who will benefit from their guidance, friendship and life experience. Mentoring allows individuals to share experiences and learn while gradually building a supportive relationship. Activities can involve shooting hoops, taking a walk, playing a board game, or simply talking. Anything you both like to do can be an option for fun. We ask our mentors to commit 1-2 hours per week for a least a year.
